Hi friends,
Happy 1st week of August!
As we end summer and enter a new chapter of the year, it’s the perfect time to intentionally practice self-care.
When you think of self-care, what comes to mind? Many of us envision bath bombs, facials, shopping sprees, eating our favorite food, or binging a good show. While these can be forms of self-care, today we want to dive a little deeper into what self-care truly means.
Taking care of ourselves allows us to be our best version, making us better friends, more productive, and overall happier individuals. However, self-care isn't always easy. This week, we are sharing some insights and helpful reminders to support your self-care journey.
Highlights of this letter include:
Are You a Priority in Your Life?
What Self-Care Really Is
4 Things That May Seem Rude That Are Actually Self-Care
By the end of today’s letter, we hope you become more aware of the time and energy you spend on yourself and gain a new understanding of how to practice self-care.
Warmly,
The PMPL Team
Are You a Priority in Your Life?
It’s so common to get wrapped up in our external relationships; friendships, family, and romantic partnerships. We often place so much of our attention on cultivating, honoring, and caring for these relationships, and that’s a beautiful thing.
This week, we wish to ask you, truthfully, how much time do you spend nurturing the relationship you have with yourself?
When we think about self-care, we think about that question. We think about this deep desire that we have to know ourselves, understand ourselves, and accept ourselves in every given moment.
So often we equate self-care and self-love to an over-the-top enamoring of ourselves, and idolizing affirmations that make us feel larger than life. And, of course, that can be part of it. But for us, a more grounded, rooted, relationship with self, feels more manageable and tangible in daily life, especially during difficult moments.
We started thinking about tallying up the ways self-care comes into our lives, in hopes of honoring this practice, and helping you all to see how subtle, and how powerful this practice can be.
What Self-Care Really Is
Self-care can mean so many things to so many different people. Here are a few ways to rethink self-care and prioritize yourself. We encourage you to try one or try all.
self-care is…
…connecting with yourself on a daily basis
….setting feel-good boundaries
…practicing healthy and clear communication
…speaking your truth when called to do so
…trusting yourself
…knowing it’s okay to say no to things that aren’t aligned
…holding the intention of understanding yourself and your desires
…releasing perfectionistic tendencies
…remembering that every day brings new experiences and no feeling is ever final
…honoring your purpose in this world and knowing that you are here for a reason
…remembering that expressing joy is an act of self-care
…knowing that in every single moment, you are always enough
…reminding yourself that you are always worthy of my hopes and dreams
…trusting that in each new day you’ll be presented with new ways to love yourself even more
4 Things That May Seem Rude That Are Actually Self-Care
